About us.

Hennessey's bar is a family owned bar situated in the Digbeth area of Birmingham city centre and only yards from the famous Bullring and Selfridges building.

The original bar was situated on Digbeth High Street and was converted into a bar by the McDonnell family in 1997. Complimenting the array of Irish bars in the Digbeth area Hennessey's quickly gained a reputation for a great night out with it's resident DJ's and late night parties.

In July 2007 the smoking ban came into force and the McDonnell family carried out a huge refurbishment, creating 2 new bars including an atrium and balcony bar area. The bar was brought  up to date with modern furnishings and new kitchen to ensure a top quality service to the newly opened Bullring staff and customers.

Hennesseys went from strength to strength getting busier and busier until eventually developers came knocking with a view to buying the building as part of the Beorma development.

After a lot of thought and consideration the family agreed to sell the building and Hennessey's to the developers.

Luckily some  six years earlier and realising that one day we might have to make way for bigger fish we aquired an old old office and warehouse with a view to relocating when the time came.

So, on the16th of February 2011 Hennessey's closed it's doors for the last time and a very emotional time it was for staff and customers alike. However the new Hennessey's was well under construction and was due to open for St Patricks day 2011.

And there we have it on 10th of March 2011 the new Hennessey's opened to friends and customers old and new. It's a ot bigger as you can see from the pictures below and it's different in many ways but still retains the same independant family ownership (no brewery or chain). Many of the staff have stayed with us including the DJ's but more importantly most of our customers and friends have stayed with us. although we realise the new Hennessey's isn't the same as the old place we'll continue to strive to create the same welcoming atmosphere for everyone customer.

The new place offers plenty of room for groups to eat and drink and lots of seating options for watching all the major sporting events. A large heated terrace to look after our smokers, late night DJ's entertaining you until 4am as well as the usual selection of ice cold beers and new cask ales not forgetting the perfect pint of Guiness.

What's next at Hennessey's

As part of the deal to sell the old Hennessey's to the developers a new bar is being built next door to the location of the old site. It's in the cold storage building that can be viewed from the main Digbeth High Street. We'll be sure to keep you updated about any developments.

The current Hennessey's will be everchanging over the next year or so and we hope to expand the beer garden three fold including an outside bar and barbeque. We also intend to extend the main room to include new dinning areas, coctail bar and private function facilities.

So it certainly is all happening at Hennessey's.

We hope to see you soon.

Kind regards from all the McDonnell family

Maureen, Gary, Jack, Elaine, Ade and Tara.
